Pavlokians,

Where has the year gone? In less than a month-and-a-half we’ll be turning the page on 2017 and welcoming 2018 in style.

Like most people, I have been reflecting on 2017, spending tons of time looking at what’s gone right (a lot), and what I can do to make 2018 better, (that also falls under the “a lot” category.)

And while the end of the year is perfect to start planning what you’re going to do differently in 2018, there is absolutely no reason as to why you can’t start working on your goals now.

Of course, it’s important to spend time with family and friends during the holiday season, but working to end the year with momentum can make all the difference in the world.

Here are a few habits you can start working on TODAY, that will set you up for success once the clock strikes midnight December 31st.

Drink More Water

Yeah. Yeah. Drink more water. Cliche, I know. If you’re rolling your eyes, but your urine is as yellow as big bird, your actions aren’t exactly mapping your goals.
Drinking more water is one of the simplest things you can do to improve your overall health, attitude, and mood.

While we all KNOW drinking water is good for us, very few go the extra mile and implement a system to make sure you’re hydrating yourself thoroughly every single day.

Simply by keeping a bottle of water by your desk, or creating specific triggers throughout your day to remind you, can help get you hydrated without any additional effort.

For example, you can use your Pavlok 2 to buzz every few hours throughout the day to make sure you take a moment and down a glass of hydrating H2O.
If your pee is clear, you’re winning at life. If not, there’s no excuse not to start drinking more water.

Build Your Morning Routine

At Pavlok we’re a HUGE fan or morning routines, and while it certainly won’t make you a millionaire overnight, or solve all your problems, starting your day with a specific structure does give you the best chance to have a productive and enjoyable day.

No need to overdo it with a list of 47 things you HAVE to get done. Start small.

When you wake up, down a huge glass of water (see above), do some light stretching, read a passage of your favorite book and be on your way.

As you become more comfortable with a morning routine, you can certainly add more complex components, but the most important part is you start building a routine today.

Even if you spend just 10 minutes consciously going through your morning routine, you’ll see a significant improvement in your day very quickly. Trust me.
If you use your Pavlok 2, you can wake yourself up with a few jumping jacks and ensure you rise at the most optimal time of your sleeping cycle.

What’s not to like?

Start Going To The Gym

One of the best parts of getting into a gym routine now is you won’t have to compete with the thousands of people who join at the start of the new year.
Of course, many of those who join January 1st won’t step foot in the gym another time that year… but you’re not like most people.

Start getting your body in shape now, and you’ll start 2018 with momentum, instead of needing a month or two get up to speed.

Lift weights. Eat right now. Your body and mind will thank you later.

Practice Mindfulness

The holiday season is a great time to celebrate and be in the company of family and friends, but it’s also a time that can be stressful for many.
Dozens of get-togethers, parties, and reminding your aunt that what you do for a living is called “social media.”

The last few months of 2017 is the perfect time to practice mindfulness and enjoy every moment to the fullest.

This applies to deep conversations with your relatives, savoring that delicious piece of apple pie, and even being grateful for the many gifts you will receive.
You can use your Pavlok 2 to bring you back to the moment if you catch yourself worrying about something that may or may not happen.

The important thing is to be present as much as possible during these last few months and express your gratitude for everything that has gone right in 2017.
Write Every Day

Whether writing is a part of your daily life or not, getting in the habit of writing down your thoughts every day is a powerful way to improve your focus, motivation, and drive.

You don’t have to start a blog, but dedicating just 15 minutes each morning to journaling can make a huge difference.

Some topics to consider:

  • What has gone right in 2017?
  • Where can I improve?
  • What do I hope to accomplish in 2018?
  • What are 1-2 themes I can commit to working on in 2018?
  • Answer these questions, and you’ll be putting yourself in the absolute best position to succeed.

You can see how one Pavlok user uses his Pavlok to make sure he writes regularly.

Stretch More

Another “yeah duh” habit on this list. But odds are even if you know stretching is good for you… you’re not doing it nearly enough.

With so many of us spending 9-10 hours a day hunched over on the computer, taking 3-4 breaks throughout the day to get up and move can help get your body in tip-top shape.

You don’t have to master the 1,000 poses of yoga, but just doing some light stretching throughout the day is enough to keep your body loose and ready to take on anything the day throws at you.

As with the water reminders, you can use the Pavlok to remind you to get up and stretch.

Get Better Sleep

The quality of your sleep has a dramatic impact on willpower, mood, and more.

Instead of boring you with the cliche “you should get 7-8 hours of sleep”, just know that you can improve the quality of your Zzz’s by beginning to form an evening routine.

Turn off your electronics at a certain time each night. Take a moment to do some light meditation. Spend 5-10 minutes planning the following day.

Not only will this help you sleep better, but it will also give you something to look forward to the next day, and you can hit the pillow knowing you are prepared and ready.

Use the Pavlok 2 to tell you when you should go to bed and wake you up in the optimal part of your sleep cycle.

Quality sleep does make all the difference.

Last on the list is something that virtually all of us can do more of.

Whether you like to devour a good fiction book or want to keep your mind sharp with the latest best selling nonfiction, commit to getting into the habit of reading more now.

If reading isn’t your thing, be sure to pick up an Audible subscription for a small investment.

Not only will the habit of reading help you keep up to date in your chosen field or profession, but the uplifting content you consume will also help you get your mind right for the start of the new year.

Commit to reading for 15 uninterrupted minutes, or 10 pages each day.

Start Now

There’s no need to wait until January 1st to start making changes. By starting now with over a month and a half left of the year, you’ll hit 2018 running and set yourself up for an extraordinary year.

How To Avoid Overeating This Holiday Season

Happy Friday Pavlokians,

I hope you have some exciting weekend plans!

With the holidays fast approaching, the last few months of the year are often the most difficult in sticking with your habits, especially when it comes to eating right and sticking with your regular gym routine.

While the holiday season is obviously meant to be enjoyed, going “overboard” and losing the year’s progress doesn’t exactly set you up for a good start to the new year.

So if you’ve been working to improve your health, weight, and exercise routine this year, here are a few tips to help keep those pounds off and feel your best these last few months of 2017.

Mindful Eating FTW

One of the reasons it’s so easy to overeat during the holidays is because there’s just so much going on. Holiday parties, family reunions, catching up with old friends.

During these events and get-togethers, it’s easy to stand by the snack table and munch for hours while you catch up with Uncle Bill who you haven’t seen in years.

Of course, that certainly won’t do your health much good.

As best as you can, try to be conscious and mindful of what and when you eat. Don’t just jump from one family buffet table to the next, but rather take your time and be focused on eating or simple conversation. Just being a little more mindful, can help keep those pounds off and make you end the year on a high note.

Speaking of mindful eating, your Pavlok 2 can help you bring your attention back when your mind starts to wander. If you catch yourself eating unconsciously, give yourself a quick beep, buzz, or zap.

Portion Size. Portion Size. Portion Size.

I get it. Every party you go to seemingly has an endless amount of your favorite food or dessert. But one piece of apple pie won’t hurt. 12 pieces on the other hand… that’s a different story.

If you are going to indulge in your favorite treats throughout the holidays (and you certainly should to some extent) do your best to go easy on the portion size. Instead of cutting a bowling ball sized piece of cake, slice off a little square.

Over the course of a few months, this really does add up. Smaller plates work too.

Enjoy Your Favorite Desserts

While committing to NO sweets this holiday season might be an admirable goal, be careful not to set yourself up for likely failure.
The point of cutting back and watching what you eat isn’t to make your life miserable, but rather give you the flexibility and power to indulge when you consciously choose.

Give yourself permission to enjoy your favorite foods and sweets this holiday season but only in small portions and moderation.
A piece of apple pie slowly savored is significantly more rewarding than shoving 11 of your grandmother’s brownies in your mouth.
When you do indulge, enjoy it to the fullest. Then commit to getting back on track.

Watch The “Adult” Eggnog

Food isn’t the only culprit for increased weight gain of the holidays. The “hidden” calories in alcohol can also do the trick.
Again, the point isn’t to reject fun this holiday season or be social with your family and friends; it’s about taking a conscious and strategic approach.

One of the quickest ways to have that weight sneak back up on you is by not watching your alcohol consumption.
Soda water or diet coke are a few alternatives to consider.

Don’t stress

Believe it or not, your stress levels have a clear correlation to the amount of weight your body retains. So while you should certainly do your best this holiday season to keep an eye on what you eat, don’t stress yourself out so much that it becomes counterproductive.

While these tips might seem simple on the surface, don’t underestimate how powerful a few small tweaks in your behavior can be.
If you need a little extra boost this holiday season, you can order your Pavlok 2 now.

Have a great weekend,

Best yet, you can even clip it to your existing watch.
Not only is the new wristband lighter and more sleek, it’s much more comfortable on your wrist.

Happy Motivation Monday Pavlokians,

Today is #MotivationMonday! I just finished up my trip to Tanzania, and it was A-MAZING.

Today I’m very excited to share an interview with Pavlok’s very own Nicholas who has used Pavlok to overcome perfectionism and help turn off his “critical entrepreneur” inner voice.

If you’re an entrepreneur or creative type, you know exactly what I’m talking about.

Building your business often requires spending your entire day putting out metaphorical fires and turning off after a long days work isn’t always easy.

What I like most about Nicholas’ story is that he was able to use Pavlok to consciously become aware when his critical/negative inner voice started to take over and has seen some pretty incredible results.

The Power of Community

Pavlokians,

Greetings from Tanzania and happy Friday.

I’m currently on my first vacation in over two years, and it’s been a truly amazing experience.

If you ever get a chance to make it this way, I can’t recommend it enough.

Today I want to talk about something that’s been weighing heavily on my mind over the last few days.

Community.

No, I’m not talking about community in the buzzword-marketing kind of way.

I mean genuine community.

The place you can go and feel welcome no matter what. The place you can go for support, encouragement, and even the occasional kick in the rear.

A place that welcomes you, no matter your goals, ambitions, struggles, or successes. A place that brings out the best in you.

One of the reasons so many people struggle to make positive change in their life, is because they act as if they have to go at it alone, especially when it comes to habit change.

“No one understands how hard it is to quit smoking!”

“I need to lose 20lbs but I just can’t stop eating sweets!”

“Ugh, no one understands how hard it is to quit biting my nails.”

Perhaps you can relate.

As we say time and time again, changing your behavior isn’t an overnight process. But if you choose to tackle your biggest problems alone, you’re only making it harder on yourself.

Which is why community is so important.

Of course, there are many types of communities.

Your family is a community. Your coworkers are a community. Your friends are a community.

And if your communities aren’t actively helping you improve, it can have a drastic effect on your habits, progress, and goals.

I truly believe finding your community is one of the most important things you can do to improve the quality of your life.

My goal with Pavlok isn’t just to change human behavior, it’s to create one of the best communities in the world to help you become your best self.

We welcome anyone who is wanting to change for the better. We welcome anyone who may feel “lost” or “confused.” We welcome anyone who dares to dream big and change the world.

And we are just getting started.

If you’re struggling with those bad habits or not doing the things you need to reach your goals…

The right community can help.

It’s time to stop sitting on the sidelines and hoping for the best. It’s time to use the support around you to finally make the change you want.

Join the Pavlok community today and end this year on the right foot. Stop by our Facebook group and say “hi”. We’ve had people just like you quit smoking, stop biting their nails, start getting up early… and more.

So make the commitment. Get involved. Pre-order your Pavlok 2 now.

How To Cultivate Gratitude

Pavlokians,

Without a doubt one of the best habits you can implement in your daily life, is cultivating gratitude.

The science is clear. Being “grateful” can have a  profound impact on your health, energy, and overall life happiness.

If the pharmaceutical industry could put gratitude in a pill, it would be the best selling vitamin in no time.

But…

I’ll admit. It’s not always easy being grateful.

Things go wrong. Life happens.

You burn your morning toast.

You get in a massive fight with your partner over something silly.

Your recent star hire just put in his 2 weeks.

The list goes on and on.

And yet… the gratitude habit isn’t about ignoring the small frustrations of your day. It’s about consciously choosing to focus on what’s going right. It’s about training your mind to see the good in virtually any situation.

Here are two ways I’ve found to cultivate the gratitude habit.

Write Down Three Things You’re Grateful For Each Night

As psychologist Shawn Achor shares in his viral TED talk,“ The Happy Secret To Better Work”, simply writing down three things you’re grateful for each day goes a long way in helping you see the “bright side” in life.

It can help you perform better at work, improve your relationships, and even give you more energy.

What you write on the list doesn’t really matter. Maybe today you’re grateful for that delicious Chipotle burrito.

The point is building the habit of consistently acknowledging the small things that bring you happiness and joy.

Each morning, or night, right before you go to bed, take out a note card and write the 3 things you’re grateful for that day.

Maybe you hit all the green lights on your way to work.

Maybe you got to read your favorite book for 20 minutes.

Or maybe it’s something as simple as playing ball with your dog.

Each day write 3 things, no matter what.

Use Pavlok 2 To Build Your Gratitude Muscle

Writing down 3 things you’re grateful for each day is a great step in building the gratitude habit. But for many, that just isn’t enough.

If you want to really push that gratitude muscle, you can set reminders throughout the day to take a moment to reflect.

Using your Pavlok 2 you can set your alarm to buzz you every hour. When your Pavlok 2 vibrates, stop what you’re doing and think about one thing that’s going well during your day.

For each vibration, try and come up with something entirely new. If you’re having a bad day, it might be something as simple as “I wasn’t late today”, or it could be “tomorrow is Friday.”

The point is to force yourself to find the good throughout the day, every day.

Overtime, you’ll find that this practice will be one of the best parts of your day, and it will become easier to flex your gratitude muscle on command.

In addition to using Pavlok to remind you to be grateful you can also use Pavlok 2’s shock feature to help reduce those negative thoughts.

Every time you catch yourself thinking something overly negative, give yourself a zap. After, immediately replace your negative thought with something more positive.

“Wow, I did TERRIBLE on my presentation today.”

ZAP…. Reframe

“While it wasn’t my best presentation, I’m proud of the work I did on the design.”

While you will never remove negative thoughts completely (they can serve as a valuable tool) implementing this routine in your daily life can help you become more grateful each and every day.

Wherever you’re reading this, take a moment right now to reflect on something you’re grateful for.

No really. Stop reading and do that now. I promise you’ll feel better.

Now go forth and have a wonderful day.
