Haters Gonna Hate

The other day, I started a fascinating discussion on my Facebook page about online”hate” and whether haters should be confronted.

As one can expect, everyone and I do mean everyone, had an opinion.

It was one of my most commented on Facebook statuses to date.

The suggestions were mixed, to say the least.

“Ignore them!”

“Put them on blast!”

“Don’t waste your time.”

“They deserve to have their eyes burn under the sight of the eclipse. And then be eaten by Daenerys’ dragons.”

How interesting.

It’s no secret, as a very public CEO who had a less than ideal Shark Tank experience, myself and my team are constantly on the receiving end up some pretty brutal hate.

While 99.9% of the hate directed towards myself and Pavlok is quite funny, some of it can sting.

For example, this guy called me a scamming potato head.
🙁

Click here to see even more hate.

I’m certainly not the only one who is on the receiving end of hate.

Perhaps you can relate.

Maybe your friends give you a hard time about wanting to lose weight.

Or your buddies have a cigarette in front of you just to taunt you.

Or your aunt replies “why even bother” when you share your most ‘ambitious’ goals.

The truth is, there’s always going to be the naysayers and the people who want to see you fail.

And I’ll admit, on days when things aren’t going so well… seeing all that hate can take its toll.

But….

My mission with Pavlok is to change how the world sees addiction — which is no easy feat. Just as losing 10 lbs, or quitting nail-biting, is no walk in the park, making change that matters takes both time and courage.

So yes, confront your haters if it makes you feel better. Or walk away if you prefer.

But don’t let the haters prevent you from becoming the best version of yourself. Push through the noise and lose those 10 lbs. Have your very last cigarette.

The internet might be home to all the haters, but the community of Pavlok is full of thousands of people all around the world working on being the best they can be.

Let the haters hate, while you continue improving yourself and the world.

It’s the only way.

-Maneesh Sethi

CEO of Pavlok

P.S I don’t see my haters with two best selling products on Amazon.

To my haters… you keep hating, while I keep playing chess.

Reduce Your Negative Thinking, Even If You’ve Tried Everything Before, In As Little As One Week

Are you tired of being the “negative” friend? Do you struggle to see the positive in your everyday life?

Do you find yourself always in a bad mood or thinking the worst of others or even yourself?

You’re not alone.

[bctt tweet=”One recent study in college aged students showed that on average, around 60-70 percent of their daily thoughts were “negative” in nature! ” username=”pavlok”]

It’s no wonder, so many of us struggle with depression and anxiety!

While everyone has negative thoughts now and then, chronic negative thinking is one of the biggest causes of depression, anxiety and more.

Of course, there are certainly real conditions that affect your brain chemistry and require professional medical attention, but for many, just making just a few small tweaks in your day can make a significant difference.

The truth is, ‘negative thinking’ is habitual, just like brushing your teeth every morning, or drinking a glass of water when you wake up. At Pavlok we’ve studied the science of habit change for the last 4 + years and have discovered several actionable tips and strategies to help reduce negative thinking and improve your overall outlook on life.

Again, we don’t pretend to be a doctor, but having helped thousands of people around the world improve their habits and thinking we’ve learned a thing or two.

Here are a few tips to help reduce negative thinking… even if you’ve tried everything before.

How To Reduce Your Negative Thoughts

Hang Around Positive People

Before you shake your head and exclaim “thank you captain obvious” it’s important to take a quick audit of your social circle.

Is your social life (aka family and friends) draining? Or do they challenge and push you to be the best you can be?

Of course, your social circle is only part of the equation, but if your friends and family are always bringing you down, it’s incredibly tough to overcome your negative thoughts and beliefs.

Reduce Your News Consumption

We’re not suggesting you transform to into a hermit and ignore the often harsh realities of the world, but the truth is, the news is designed to make you anxious and depressed (it gets clicks after all)

Instead of checking your latest news source or social media network replace it with reading an interesting book or going for a run.

This simple tweak alone will go a long way in helping you fight those negative thoughts and increase your chances of success.

Start A Gratitude Journal

One of the best ways to combat your negative thoughts is to train yourself to look for the positive!

The easiest way to do this is to start a gratitude journal where you write 2-3 positive things that happened to you each day. Over time you’ll start to notice things you might not otherwise have seen.

Do this for a month straight, and we promise you’ll be in a much better position than when you started.

Talk To Your Doctor

When you’re caught in a “negative spiral” many of the above tips and tricks might seem pointless. Again, negative thinking for some individuals is a real medical condition, and it always makes sense to get an opinion (or two) from a medical professional you trust.

We’re not suggesting you NEED medication to fix your negative thinking, but it’s important you get a holistic view of your situation.

Use The Pavlok System

While the steps above will most certainly be helpful in reducing your habitual negative chatter, Pavlok has helped thousands of people around the world improve their habits and thoughts through our Pavlok wearable.

You can use the Pavlok to not only become aware of your negative thinking patterns but rewire your brain to reduce those dark thoughts. Aversion and and replacement are the two ways to change a habit.

Every time you have a negative thought coming on, simply use the Pavlok to give yourself a shock.

Overly critical of your presentation at work? Zap.

Beating yourself up over losing 4 lbs instead of 25lbs? Zap.

Do this as much as you feel comfortable. Over time, you will notice your negative thoughts become less and less.

Of course, Pavlok won’t make you superhuman, but it will bring you pretty darn close.

Here’s how John used Pavlok to cut back on their negative mental chatter.

Change Your Reward

Click here to watch my short video on rewards.

Yesterday we discussed “actions” and how they are an important part of the habit loop.

Hopefully you were able to find some replacement actions for the bad habit you’re trying to break.

For today’s final video, I’m going to discuss how rewards impact your habit change success.

Rewards are a feeling or external factor that encourages you do a certain habit.

If you’re trying to stop a habit, you need to get rid of the pleasure of the habit you’re doing.

It’s that simple.

Pavlok was specifically designed to add a slight amount of uncomfortableness to help you reduce your “reward” of performing a bad habit.

For example, I used Pavlok to stop eating potato chips.

For the first few days, each time I ate a potato chip I would use Pavlok to zap myself.

After just a few times of doing this, I quickly started thinking to myself “Is the potato chip worth a zap”

The answer was almost always no.

Today’s task is to identify the rewards from your bad habit. Once you figure that out, write out 3 ways in which you can make the habit less pleasurable.

You’re now well on your way to destroying your bad habits.

Did you enjoy this week’s mini series on the habit loop? Comment below and let me know!

P.S Next week I’m going to be releasing even more videos on how to break bad habits.

Actions: The Two Ways To Change A Habit.

Click here to watch my videos on “actions”

Yesterday we talked about triggers and how they are the foundation of habit change.

I hope you enjoyed my story of a Pavlok user and her “flower vase” trigger.

Today we are going to talk about how to actually change your habits, through actions.

There are two ways to change a habit.

1. Aversion
2. Replacement

Both of which Pavlok can hep you with. But today we’re going to focus on “replacement”

A few years ago, before Pavlok, I had a personal trainer who helped me lose weight.

It turns out, my habit of eating a pint of ice cream every day (not the good kind) isn’t very good for your health.

My trainer asked me “why are you eating a pint of ice cream?”

“Because I like it.”

My trainer then said, “Why don’ you try replacing the pint of ice-cream with frozen mixed berries?”

And so I did.

The berries were cold and sweet. It seemed like I was cheating — but I was actually getting 4 servings of fruits and vegetables 🙂

Almost overnight, I got rid of my eating a pint of ice cream habit.

Every time I wanted to eat some ice cream I ate some frozen berries instead.

I quickly started getting the recommended amount of fruits per day. 😉

It seems simple. But with just that one replacement I was able to lose a TON of weight.

For today, I want you to brainstorm some positive replacements for any habit you’re trying to break.

For example, if you’re trying to stop smoking, each time you have the urge to light up, chew a piece of gum instead.

If you’re looking to stop biting your nails, start putting your hand on your right leg every time you have the urge to bit your nails.

Replacing your bad habits with positive ones will make all the difference in the success of your habit formation.

Comment below and let me know what you’re going to to try to replace.

P.S Tomorrow I’ll be talking about rewards. You won’t want to miss it.

Introducing Bud H — Pavlok’s Newest Creator and Curator of Content

Introducing Pavlok User Bud Hennekes— Pavlok’s Newest Creator and Curator of Content

Today we’re super excited to announce that Bud Hennekes, one of Pavlok’s first ever beta users, has joined Pavlok as a curator and creator of content. He’ll be helping the Pavlok team produce content to help you get more out of your habits as well as highlight the success stories of the 1000’s of Pavlok users around the world.

I first connected with Bud through social media 6 years ago and we’ve since become good friends. Bud first reached out in 2014 wanting to join the Pavlok beta program to help him kick the smoking habit he picked up while living in NYC and his results were nothing short of amazing.

You can check out some of his videos here and here.

Since first using Pavlok in 2014, he’s participated in a University of Massachusetts study on Pavlok’s ability to help quit smoking, been quoted in the New York Times and has used Pavlok to be both more productive and present. He’s currently using Pavlok to cut back on drinking ‘Monster.’

What I’ve enjoyed most about Bud’s journey is even through the ups and downs of habit change, he’s committed to continuing to improve and build habits that will help him live a happy and healthy life for decades to come.

Take it away Bud.

Hey fellow Pavlokians,

I’m thrilled to be here and a part of the Pavlok community. I’m fired up to share and create content to help take your habits and life to the next level, as well as share some of the awesome stories of our Pavlok community.

But first.. a little bit about me.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve always been fascinated by self improvement and getting the ‘most out of life.’ And of course, a large part of getting the most out of life involves having good habits and avoiding the ones that hold you back.

Unfortunately, even with the best intentions, bad habits can derail those plans. Maybe you know the feeling. I know I do.

In 2013, I was struggling to jumpstart my career in NYC. I was down on myself feeling anxious and depressed, and on top of that I had started smoking… up to two packs a day.

As you can imagine, that’s hardly “getting the most out of life.”

But no matter what I did, I couldn’t stop. I “wanted to..” of course, but the addiction was in full control.

I continued to smoke nearly two packs a day all throughout 2013 and early 2014 during my time in NYC.

In mid 2014 I started taking a hard look at where I was at in life and I knew I wasn’t happy with the path I was on.

I was miserable both personally and professionally, and needed something to change. So after relocating from NYC back home, I knew my first step would be to quit smoking.

It was perfect timing.

Pavlok had just launched their beta program and I applied and decided to give it a go. Fortunately, I was accepted because that changed the course of my life forever.

In a period of just a few weeks my smoking consumption virtually disappeared. I no longer had the urge to smoke. I went months without cigarettes even crossing my mind.

I felt good about myself for the first time in a long time.

Through that one change, I started thinking about other habits in my life in an entirely different way. And the snowball effect was born.
And almost out of nowhere…

I started meditating, going on daily walks, drinking more water and taking habit change seriously.

And not surprisingly, my life then started to get exponentially better. I felt unstoppable.

Now, several years later, I’ve replaced “being a smoker” with “being a student of habit change” and I couldn’t be happier with the track I’m on.

By one simple decision, I’ve been able to make incredible strides and improvements in my life and I’m certain that started with me using Pavlok.

Now don’t get me wrong, even with Pavlok, habit change is a life long journey. You’re going to mess up, you’re not always going to get it right.

I’d be lying if I said I hadn’t slipped up and had a drag of a cigarette or two after a night out drinking with friends on occasion. But I’m no longer a slave to my addiction.

I no longer believe I’m ‘powerless’ change my habits. I know with the right tools, mindset, and support I can change any habit I want, and that’s one of the most empowering feelings in the world.

I know what it’s like to be stuck. I know what it’s like to feel like you can’t change. I know what it’s like to feel frustrated, down, and defeated.

But I’m living proof that things can get better. You can take control of your habits and your life with the right approach.

Again, it won’t always be easy. But if you put in the work and stick with it, you can truly transform your life.

I may be biased, but if you’re looking to change your habits, I highly recommend you give Pavlok a try.

It just might change your life. It surely changed mine.

-Bud Hennekes

Maneesh again.

This is easily one of my favorite “Motivational Monday’s” in a long time. Hearing stories like this is what makes the long hours and hard work here at Pavlok worth it.

We mean it when we say we want to change the way the world views habit change.

And with that…

We have some great news.

After we briefly ran out of stock in April… Pavlok is back in stock for a limited time.

We’re not joking when we say we don’t know how long this will last.

So if you’ve considered getting a Pavlok to help you change your habits for life, now is the time to do so.

Introducing Pavlok Pure

Over the last few years, Pavlok has been focused heavily on the art of making behavior change easy and effortless. Through our products, we’ve helped people all around the world quit smoking, biting their nails, cut back on sugar cravings, and much more.

But Pavlok hasn’t just helped people get rid of bad habits. We’ve also helped people implement positive ones, like waking up earlier, becoming more focused, and even being more present throughout the day.

It’s been humbling to know that our company has positively affected so many people

But the truth is, while we’ve been incredibly successful thus far, the path to success hasn’t always been easy.

Sure, we’ve been featured in dozens of major news publications such as the New York Times, had badass celebrities use our products to help them build better habits, and launched several successful Kickstarter campaigns…

But we’ve also had our fair share of road bumps.

After having a heated discussion with some of the Sharks on ABC’s hit show Shark Tank, 18 months ago, I spent a lot of time in self reflection.

I wanted to make sure that Pavlok is around to help people change their habits for many decades to come.

While what happened on the show has since gone viral, what many people don’t know is that while killing time between filming, I stumbled upon a world class founder who had one of the best products I’ve ever seen.

The gentleman I discovered on Reddit, was shipping potatoes directly to people’s doors with an inspiring or funny message inscribed.

Even though I hate potatoes more than any food on earth, I got to thinking about the cutting edge technology used for the foundation of his product.

It was so pure…

And I’ve been obsessed with getting back to the basics ever since.

After my appearance on Shark Tank and subsequently discovering the potato guy, I knew we had to change things up at Pavlok.

Since then we’ve been hard at work creating the BEST habit change product on the market.

I’m excited to share that product with you today — introducing the Pavlok Pure.

We’ve taken the best habit change technology and research to create a product that will revolutionize the way you change your habits.

No really. We mean that.

Best yet, we’ve listened to you, our  fellow Pavlokians, and incorporated as much feedback as we could.

SHOCKINGLY LIGHT

While our Pavlok wristband and shock  clock are extremely light and flexible, we understand that people have different levels of fitness. Some people have better arm and wrist strength than others.

Keeping that in mind, we designed the Pavlok Pure to be a weight that anyone could wear comfortably for extended periods of time.

Say goodbye to wrist and arm fatigue from other wearables,

because the Pavlok Pure out of the box weighs a shockingly light .020 OZ’s.

You can wear it 24/7 and not have to worry about your arm being tired at the end of the day.

After a few uses, you’ll forget you’re wearing it.

For quality testing, I even had my 4 year old nephew and 3lb dog wear the Pavlok Pure with no problems.

THE BEST MATERIALS

I’m also excited to announce we’ve gone back to the drawing board with concerns to the materials of the Pavlok Pure.

Here at Pavlok we think the environment is incredibly important, so we wanted to reflect that company ethos with the Pavlok Pure.

We partnered with one of the largest organic, vegan, and GMO friendly rubber tree farms in South America to ensure that we are only using the best materials while not sacrificing quality.

The Pavlok Pure is 40 percent rubber, and 100 percent successful.

I’ve personally gone to our on site location in South America  7 times using airline miles and had organic non-alcoholic vodka sodas with the three owners of the most reputable rubber farms in all the world.

The Pavlok Pure materials are directly imported from the Amazon and coated with the highest quality palm oil for additional shine.

We think you’ll be blown away with the craftsmanship and overall look of the Pavlok Pure.

THE BEST BATTERY LIFE

We understand that charging your favorite wearables can sometimes be a pain. While the Pavlok and shock clock have an exceptional battery life.. We wanted to take things to the next level.

And thanks to the inspiration from the potato guy, and the advanced technology powering the Pavlok Pure, you can say goodbye to power cords forever.

The Pavlok Pure comes with an INFINITE BATTERY LIFE. You’ll never have to charge your favorite wearable again. If you need to take your Pavlok Pure off for any reason, you can put it in our included high quality Pavlok Pure carrying case.

Best yet, if your Pavlok Pure breaks or decays, we’ll send you a prompt replacement — simply pay the 39.99 dollar shipping and you’ll get a new one sent straight to your mailbox.

We’re revolutionizing the habit world.

THE PAVLOK PURE APP

Our team spent many monster fueled nights making sure that the complimentary app would help you reach your habit goals. So we developed a new app entirely from scratch.

We’ve spent over 12,000 hours developing a fully functional IOS and Android app to make your Pavlok Pure experience even better.

Our Pavlok Pure App extension allows you to take beautiful high quality photos of your wrist so you can share the Pavlok Pure with your family and friends on social media.

Simply take a photo of your wrist using your built in camera on your phone, login to the Pavlok Pure app, sign in to your favorite social media networks, hit post — and the Pavlok Pure will take care of the rest.

Not only will you will you get a ton of Instagram hearts, your friends and family will know about your incredible style and that you’re serious about building great habits.

Smoking just a pack a day for a year can add up to several thousands of dollars.

Sugar addiction can also wreak havoc on the quality of your life.

Checking Facebook 82 times a day isn’t helping you reach your goals.

With Pavlok Pure, we wanted to make habit change affordable so we spent hours testing different prices and talking with our beta users.
